SUSTAINABILITY & RESPONSIBILITY

We Care

About travel that respects people, places & the future

Our Commitment

Travel that creates a positive impact —
everywhere it takes us.

At Vio Travel, we believe travel should create a positive impact wherever it takes us. Sustainability is an integral part of how we design experiences, select partners, and curate journeys — ensuring that every trip enriches destinations, strengthens local communities, and fosters deeper connections between travellers and the world around them.

Our commitment reflects the care we have for the places we operate in, the people we work with, and the future of our industry. By embedding responsible practices into our approach, we create meaningful travel experiences that benefit and support our partners, and contribute to the long-term wellbeing of local communities.

For us, sustainable travel is essential to building a resilient and thriving industry. It helps preserve cultural heritage, protect natural environments, and create economic opportunities for local communities, while allowing travellers to experience destinations in a more authentic and enriching way. Through thoughtful travel, we can help ensure that the places we cherish today continue to inspire generations to come.

Independent Certification

Independently verified.
Internationally recognised.

In January 2026, Vio Travel received formal certification from Preferred by Nature under the Preferred by Nature Standard for Sustainable Travel Activities V1.1 — a GSTC-recognised benchmark. Following an independent audit, we achieved full compliance across all four certification principles, confirming that our governance, supplier standards, and operational practices meet an internationally recognised standard for responsible tourism.

What This Means For You

Responsible travel, built into every journey.

Our certification and sustainability framework translate into real, tangible benefits for your business and your clients.

01

ESG & Procurement

Many travel companies now operate under ESG reporting frameworks that require documented sustainability standards from key suppliers. Our certification provides audited, third-party verified evidence that meets this requirement.

02

Supplier Screening

Our structured supplier assessment process — covering environmental, social, and legal compliance — means the experiences we recommend have already been screened against defined standards, reducing your own due diligence burden.

03

Risk Mitigation

Working with operators who have documented governance frameworks, labour standards, and incident reporting protocols reduces reputational and operational risk — particularly in markets where regulatory scrutiny is increasing.

04

Reputational Protection

Your clients hold you accountable for the operators you recommend. Partnering with a GSTC-recognised certified DMC gives you a defensible, evidence-based answer to sustainability questions — not marketing language, but independently audited proof.

05

Policy Framework

Our published sustainability, environmental, animal welfare, and safeguarding policies provide the documented policy framework your own compliance teams may require from preferred suppliers.

Proof in Action

Real steps. Real results.

Words backed by action. Here’s how our commitments come to life — from the policies that guide us to the communities we support on the ground.

1

Building Strong Foundations Through Policy and Governance

We strengthened our sustainability framework by formalising key policies covering sustainability, environmental responsibility, animal welfare, and safeguarding. These policies now guide our daily operations, supplier relationships, and decision-making, ensuring responsible practices are embedded across the business.

2

Engaging Suppliers and Aligning on Sustainability

Sustainability is a shared journey. In Bali, we began engaging key suppliers to better understand their current practices and align on VIO Travel’s sustainability expectations, laying the groundwork for stronger collaboration and continuous improvement across our supply chain.

3

Reviewing Experiences Through a Sustainability Lens

We started assessing selected Bali experiences against our three sustainability pillars: environmental protection, social responsibility, and economic responsibility. This helps us identify opportunities to enhance the positive impact of the journeys we create.

4

Reducing Environmental Impact in Our Own Activities

At our 2025 conference and events, we introduced practical measures to minimise waste, including reducing single-use materials and supporting responsible waste management. Small actions, taken consistently, help reduce our operational footprint.

5

Supporting Local Communities and Education

Through partnerships with the Bali Tourism Polytechnic, we support initiatives that promote environmental awareness, education, and community wellbeing — including mangrove planting, blood donation drives, and educational programmes for local children and communities.

Partnering with Sungai Watch

We proudly support Sungai Watch in its mission to protect Indonesia’s waterways. In 2025, our contribution helped remove 800 kilograms of waste from rivers, and we look forward to creating an even greater impact together in the years ahead.

Have Questions?

We Care FAQs

Answers to the questions we hear most from travel agency partners about our sustainability approach, certification, and how we work.

About the Preferred by Nature Certification

Yes. Vio Travel is certified under the Preferred by Nature Standard for Sustainable Travel Activities V1.1, a Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Recognised Standard. Following a rigorous independent audit, the company achieved 100% compliance across all four certification principles across our Indonesia operations.

The Preferred by Nature Standard for Sustainable Travel Activities V1.1 is an internationally recognised framework for responsible tourism, developed by Preferred by Nature, one of the world’s leading sustainability certification bodies. It is recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), which sets the global benchmark for credible sustainability standards in tourism. You can find the details here https://cs.preferredbynature.org/s/certificate/a06QB00000GFqwM/vio-travel-limited-pbnto077651-active

It means Vio Travel met every requirement across all four core pillars of the standard without exception: Responsible Management, People, Nature, and Climate. This is an independent, third-party verified outcome, not a self-assessment. Further details can be found here https://www.preferredbynature.org/library/document/standard-sustainable-travel-activities-v10

Indonesia is the first destination to receive certification, with the audit ceremony held in Bali in April 2026. Vio Travel’s roadmap is to progressively extend the same certification standards across its full network of 15+ destinations in Asia Pacific.

The audit was conducted independently by Preferred by Nature, an international non-profit organisation with 30 years of experience in sustainability certification across 100+ countries. Further details can be found here https://www.preferredbynature.org/library/document/standard-sustainable-travel-activities-v10

For Travel Agent and Tour Operator Partners

It provides independent, third-party verified assurance that the ground operations your clients experience meet a globally recognised standard. For agencies operating under ESG or procurement compliance requirements, Vio Travel’s certification delivers auditable evidence that your ground partner meets documented sustainability criteria.

Yes. Because the certification is independently verified and GSTC-recognised, it can be cited and documented as part of your supply chain sustainability reporting. It provides a credible, third-party validated data point for ESG frameworks.

Positively. Vio Travel’s sustainability standards are embedded into supplier selection, meaning the local operators and experiences in your itineraries already meet documented environmental, social, and ethical criteria, without requiring additional due diligence on your part.

It mitigates reputational, procurement, and regulatory risk. For agencies increasingly required to demonstrate responsible sourcing, having a certified ground partner reduces exposure and strengthens the credibility of the travel products you sell.

Supplier Standards and Local Impact

Vio Travel applies strict environmental and ethical criteria in its supplier selection process. The company partners almost exclusively with locally owned tour operators, with a deliberate, ground-up approach that ensures tourism revenue flows directly to the communities that travellers engage with.

Vio Travel targets 95% locally owned tour operator suppliers across its network. This is a deliberate sourcing strategy designed to ensure that the economic benefits of tourism stay within local communities.

No. Vio Travel operates a zero-tolerance policy on child labour and forced labour. This commitment is embedded across its supplier framework and was independently validated as part of the Preferred by Nature certification audit.

Environmental Practices

Vio Travel runs fully paperless operations, has significantly reduced reliance on single-use plastics, and embeds strict environmental criteria into its supplier selection process. These practices were independently verified as part of the certification audit across its Indonesia operations.

Climate is one of the four core pillars of the Preferred by Nature certification. Vio Travel’s certification confirms active efforts to reduce and mitigate climate impacts as part of its operational practices — independently audited and validated.

For Travellers

When you travel on an itinerary delivered by Vio Travel, you can be confident that the experiences have been designed to minimise environmental impact, support local communities economically, and operate under ethical standards that have been independently verified against a global benchmark.

Yes, directly. Vio Travel’s sourcing model prioritises locally owned suppliers, meaning the money you spend on the ground goes to local operators, guides, and businesses, not large multinational chains. This approach is a deliberate part of Vio Travel’s sustainability framework.
